With the announcement of Skype coming to Windows Phone OS, I think that another app that might be coming on WP OS is WhatsApp Messenger. It is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. Currently WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and also Nokia.
The problem that WhatsApp messenger had with the initial release of WP7 was mainly due to the lack of permissions to access the address book and the lack of Sockets on Windows Phone 7. With the announcement that Joe Belfiore made last week at MIX 11, these API’s, plus another 1500 API’s, will be available to third party apps and thus can be used by the WhatsApp team.
Hopefully we’ll see this useful app in the 4th Quarter of this year or even next year, after that the Windows Phone team releases the Mango Update… unless some carriers block it. Maybe finally WP OS users can start to send free SMS’s to the other platforms!! Time will tell us 🙂

I hope MS will contact the Whatsapp guys, so they can fully integrate whatsapp in the people-hub. Whatsapp-messages and SMS shouldn’t be treated any different
Nice idea. BUt you need to have information if this message is free or if it is paid SMS.
