Making the Perfect Tea

In Malta it’s Sunday afternoon, and in other places it’s still in morning. So what better time than having a nice cup of tea!

I admit it. I love tea! And drinking tea relaxes me. So I’m always in search to make a cup of tea better, sometimes adding more milk, or leaving the tea bag for a couple more minutes. But finally, someone did the research for me. Scientists, from the University of Northumbria’s School of Life Sciences, have discovered how to make the perfect cup of tea.

Apparently they spent 180 hours of testing and a panel of volunteers consumed 285 cups of tea in the laboratory to come up with an equation for the perfect cuppa, and have come out with the following recipe:

  1. Add 200ml of freshly boiled water to your tea bag (in a mug).
  2. Allow the tea bag to brew for 2 minutes.
  3. Remove the tea bag.
  4. Add 10ml of milk.
  5. Wait 6 minutes before consumption for the cuppa to reach its optimum temperature of 60 degrees centigrade

But beware, if you leave it until after 17 minutes and 30 seconds, then the tea will be past its best. My opinion.. don’t take too long to drink it 🙂 Nice tea time to everyone!

Published My Facebook Timeline

And just like that, I finally published my Facebook Timeline.. been thinking to do it for a while, and finally on the 5th of May (05/05) at exactly 5:05 PM, I published my timeline.. hehe wanted to make it special lol.

So why have I been holding out?

At first I didn’t like the fact that anyone can go through my timeline and watch and read what I did during the past years. You could have done that in the Pre-timeline facebook, but you would have to click lots of “Load More…” buttons to arrive at least at the beginning of the current year. Continue reading

Mark as Spam or Trash/Delete?

When I changed my blog from wordpress.com to a self hosted blog, one of the downsides was that i didn’t have the Akismet Spam protection anymore. So I started receiving a lot of spam comments at my email address. For each comment you have a bunch of options, amongst of which you can choose to Approve, Spam, or Trash the comment.

So what is the difference between Spam and Trash? Continue reading

My New Corner

Dear Surfers & Readers,

Hope that all of you are fine and thanks for reading this blog. Have not been writing much posts as of lately but I was busy making some new plans for my new corner on the internet.

I have been blogging with wordpress for these last 5 years, 4 months and 1 week and 3 days, exactly on Friday the 13th October 2006 [hmmm maybe I was scared that night :)]. It was nice writing posts on ciappara.wordpress.com but now the time has come to move and be independent. Don’t worry, I’m not going away. I’m just moving this blog to my personal web address. From now on you can find me and my new posts on this website, ciappara.com.

In this blog I write any issues that I face while developing apps & websites and their solutions. The response from other people having the same issues was amazing in that users started helping each other in the comments. I will update my new blog on a more regular pace and also have plans to start making some new fun stuff as well… but i will tell you more on this later on.

Hope to see you all on ciappara.com! Btw, what do you think of my logo (see above) and the site layout… any suggestions?

My Lumia 800 is here!

I ordered my Nokia Lumia 800 last Monday (12/12/2011) during a Cyber Monday sale on Amazon.de. Tuesday Morning shipped and on Wednesday in the afternoon was in my hands 🙂 Let me tell you, it’s awesome!! It’s really nice to handle and a joy to use. The Windows Phone OS is amazing on this device.

I’ll updating the site with more info as I continue using the amazing features of WP7. Till then happy WP7ing 🙂 More pictures of my new gadget after the break… Continue reading

Ordered my Nokia Lumia 800

And just like that, I just ordered my Nokia Lumia 800 on 12th December at exactly 9:00pm!! Today Amazon.de made a Cyber Monday sale where it slashed prices for more than 300 items, and the Nokia Lumia’s price slashing began at 9:00:00pm and ended at 9:00:20pm.. it only took 20 seconds for all the stock to finish!!! And I was one of the lucky to get one at a reduced price!!! Hussaahhh.

Now waiting for the delivery to take place!! 🙂 Hopefully it doesn’t take long!! 🙂 Btw it’s the Black one.. the blue one is still not available.. but the black will do just as good 🙂

Apple’s “Let’s Talk” keynote was Booring!!

Don’t get me wrong, they added some new features to iOS 5, but all together, it wasn’t much of a show. I expected a bigger screen (not the same old 3.5 inch one), some NFC goodness, and at least a different chassis, tinner like say the Galaxy SII. In a few months and even weeks, the specs on this phone will be outpaced by other smartphones. Read more specs after the break… Continue reading

Week Review.. over 300,000 all time views

This week my blog managed to reach a target that I previously set in my mind, 300,000 all time views. Most popular websites manage to reach that amount in only one day. But I’m happy with the result.

Moving Forward

These last few months, I’ve been trying to add a post, if not daily, at least 4 times a week, and am almost managing it, to help more developers with the solutions to the daily problems I find, and other utilities that help users.

During the next weeks I will be shifting this blog to  personal domain name, www.ciappara.com, to make it more customizable. I’ve been meaning to do this for years, but now it’s time to do it 🙂

Blogging Solutions

I have been happy using wordpress for these last 4 and a half years, but now I would like to start using a .Net Blogging solution. This would help make customisations more easily, as I’m a C# guy :), and can add anything I want. I’ve been searching for a few solutions, and I found BlogEngine.Net and Graffiti, or else develop continue developing a blogging engine using Project Nine. I will be testing and reviewing them and let you know what I’m choosing.

But more info on my new blog later. Till then continue watching this blog ciappara.wordpress.com! Thanks for all your reading! 🙂

First month in my New Job

Last month, on the 22nd of February 2011, I started working with deVere-Group as a Web Developer. It’s already been a month and I thought to share my experience with you. It is nice working here at deVere, the people here are great and I like the job, it’s interesting and allows me to gain experience in Finance. I’m working on the Devere Fund Platform which handles the funds of over 60,000 clients around the world.

The only thing that I was worried about when I started was that, since I’m a C# guy, here we use VB.Net for the development of websites and apps. For me it was like “Oopps” but now am getting accustomed to it… and let me say that VB.Net is not that bad 🙂 – though I still prefer C#.

I’m also in deVere’s football team, but till now, we didn’t have a lot of success, but I’m sure we will!! Last week, we got new shirts for our team and I think this will help us! 🙂 Continue reading
